HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER

Working Together

TLDR: We support everyone of all ages. We do this either by 1:1 zoom sessions, through live presentations or in the not-too-distant future – online strategy content bank.

Perspective offers 1:1 sessions via Zoom. We work with children, teens, adults and families, offering a tailored service that best suits your needs. Each demographic has its unique challenges and Perspective prides itself on adaptability and the accommodations we make to ensure our coaching is delivered in the most affirming, relatable and effective way possible regardless of the age or neurological presentation of the client.

Our identification with the experience of late diagnosis also allows us to understand the unique challenges that occur as a result of undiagnosed neurodivergence throughout childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Our aim is to support you through the challenges that being neurodivergent may present with parenting, relationships, your environment, work or with your executive functioning.

We also offer live training events in workplace settings, education or community venues. These training events are either delivered in person within the Yorkshire, UK or delivered virtually in any time zone.

We are currently developing an online portal of useful information to help develop your understanding of neurodivergence and provide practical strategy suggestions to support you or someone you know with the areas they find challenging.

Find out more about how we can support you below.

Support with family life

TLDR: We offer a non-judgemental, neuro-affirming (but also realistic) approach to supporting you with family life. Sessions are flexible with who attends when and can offer support to the whole family with the difficulties you may experience as a result of differences in processing.

Whether you are neurodivergent yourself, a parent of a neurodivergent child or both, there will most likely be challenges that you want to overcome to ease the dysregulation that may present in response to certain experiences or stimuli.

Families often prefer our dynamic approach to coaching. We offer a rotation of the sessions between family members or combinations of family members depending on what they all feel is most useful week to week. This approach works well in a family dynamic as it allows us to hear the different perspectives of each individual and act as a problem solver/ intermediary for any behavioural or communication issues that may have presented and offer suggestion of potential solutions/accommodations.

Together we can take the time to understand the unique make up of your family unit and work together to understand each member of the family’s perspective by looking at their thoughts, behaviours and communication through a neurodivergent lens.

The strategies we use to support families are based on developing an understanding of emotional, physical, behavioural and sensory regulation/dysregulation. If we can learn what is at the root of the behaviours we might see in neurodivergent (Autism, PDA, ADHD etc) individuals and therefor learn how to make accommodations or use strategies to prevent the build of this dysregulation.
Similarly, if dysregulation does occur, we need to learn de-escalation techniques that actually work and provide regulation to our neurodivergent loved ones.

The learning of these strategies is what we call building a toolkit. This toolkit is something you and/or your partner/family and children can all learn to use not only now but for the rest of your lives as neurodivergent individuals.

Parenting as a neurodivergent parent or parenting a neurodivergent child can be incredibly hard. With our coaches first hand experience of the reality of parenting (both as part of a couple and as a single parent) when there are either one or more neurodivergent family members, provides an invaluable understanding of family life. Underpinning all the work we do both privately and charitably, is the development of understanding and acceptance of your unique neurodivergent family life.

Common difficulties/differences/conflicts we might see in family dynamics are:

  • Division of chores
  • Time management
  • Parenting
  • Discipline
  • Schooling
  • Home education
  • Sleep issues
  • Communication between adults
  • Communication with children
  • Conflict resolution
  • Sibling relationships
  • C0-regulation

And so much more.

TLDR: We take the time to learn and engage with our children/teen clients by learning all about their special interests and hobbies.

When working with children/teens we often use play based or interest led coaching in order to engage with our young clients and we find that having the ability to enthuse about a subject or activity together breaks down some of the communication barriers that often present when working with younger neurodivergent children.

This play based strategy is not to be mistaken as play therapy but rather as co-regulation, parallel play or regulation through special interest that builds the trust and rapport between client and coach. We have experience with a wide range of interests and hobbies and willingly research a client’s preferences between sessions.

An example of just some of the special interests we have had the pleasure of connecting with our children/teen clients with are; dinosaurs, Minecraft, The Sims, The Victorians, Sharks, Art (drawing, painting and sculpture), fashion design, sewing, Music/popular culture (K-pop, Taylor swift, alternative genres etc) and other media including tv, films and social media where it is sometimes possible (with a parents permission) to exchange neurodiversity related content that is relevant to the coaching process.

Support for neurodivergent adults

TLDR: Whether you have known about your neurology for a long time or are only recently identifying your differences in processing, we understand and can support you to learn about yourself and help you advocate for what you need.

We support adults of all ages 18-100 in understanding their neurology. This neurology could be something they have known about since childhood, or more commonly, this realisation may not have occurred until mid-late adulthood.

If you are an adult having discovered, you are neurodivergent in adulthood there are many reasons why your neurodivergence may have been undetected until now. We can take the time to look at the past through a neurodivergent lens, if you feel this is helpful (*see section on ethics as to how coaching differs from counselling).
The effect of masking your neurodivergent traits to cope with the overwhelm of the difficulties you may have experienced, can be exhausting, feel inauthentic, and hinder the development and expression of your sense of self.

The realisation of why you may have experienced difficulty in development, education, with relationships and in work, can be overwhelming to process and many clients find great benefit in having a space to explore and identify the patterns that consistently show up throughout their time as an undiagnosed individual.

Understanding these patterns allows us to identify what we experience that causes our emotional, physical, behavioural or sensory dysregulation and then together we can develop a tool kit of strategies that you can use to either prevent or counteract this dysregulation.

Our coach has experienced late diagnosis first hand and as such can support you with navigating diagnosis, treatment (in the case of ADHD if you choose treatment), either privately or through the NHS.

We are passionate about helping the neurodivergent adult population to embrace their neurology, harness the benefits/joy in being neurodivergent and find a way to comfortably live, work or study in environments that need to be adapted to accommodate not just the typically processing population.

Common difficulties/differences/conflicts we might see are:

  • Development of coping mechanisms (masking the true presentation of neurodivergence)
  • Understanding overwhelm
  • Understanding difficulties with emotional regulation
  • Relating to friends and family
  • Communicating with friends and family
  • Discovering what you need
  • Embrace your authentic self.
  • Advocate for what you need.
  • Acceptance of your strengths and limitations

Our aim is to take the successful work we have been providing in our in-person events and create a catalogue of short, succinct information available on demand for you to watch at your leisure at a pace that suits you.

This information will include not just an explanation of the root of the behaviours that we might see in neurodivergent individuals of any age, but also provide useful suggestions of strategies for you to try.

COMING SOON! - IN DEVELOPMENT

TLDR: We run live online events periodically - Please feel free to check this page for a list of our upcoming events.

We periodically deliver our in-person training programme online via live zoom video presentations.

These events are designed to provide a crash course in the presentation of each profile of neurodivergence and help you to understand both the root of the difficulties you may encounter and what strategies you can use to support these difficulties.

We currently offer the following the following presentations:

  • General overview of neurodivergence
  • Understanding Autism (Child)
  • Understanding Autism (adult)
  • Understanding PDA
  • What are regulation and dysregulation?
  • Understanding sensory regulation strategies
  • Understanding ADHD (Child)
  • Understanding ADHD (Adult)
  • I think I have ADHD …now what? (Adult)
  • Understanding emotional ADHD
  • Navigating dual diagnosis (Autism and ADHD)
  • The importance of co-regulation

Each presentation is approximately 2hrs and provides a deep dive into its subject matter. Accessibility is always a top priority and as such we make every effort to use the tools available to us to ease the overwhelm of this volume of information in the short time frame. These tools often include (where possible) a recording of the presentation available after the event, the slides from the presentation available to download, a transcript supplied, and subtitles enabled during the live broadcast when possible.

These training presentations can also be booked both in-person or virtually to be delivered to your workplace, education setting or community group. SEE HERE for our training package pricing or email [email protected] for more information.
