AUTISM SUPPORT - ADULT

How We Can Support You

TLDR: Whether you have known about your neurology for a long time or are only recently identifying your differences in processing, we understand and can support you to learn about yourself and help you advocate for what you need.

Coaching sessions for autistic adults provide the opportunity to develop an understanding of your own individual autistic experience.

Each autistic person experiences the world in a unique way and while we can often use clinical framework to understand the difficulties an autistic individual may experience, how these difficulties impact that person can vary depending on each person’s upbringing, social and economic situation and other co-occurring factors.

In coaching we explore the way you process the world and where necessary, we work to develop skills and strategies to manage the social, economic and practical challenges that come with the condition.

These sessions are suitable for any adult looking for support in any area of their personal or professional life.

Strategies and Support

Examples of things we might cover are:

Regulating your Nervous System

Your Sensory Needs

The Effects of Masking

Communicaton Strategies

Whether you have known you are autistic for a long time or are suddenly realising that you identify with the autistic experience, our services are designed for you.

You may have chosen to self-diagnose or are seeking a clinical diagnosis, either way we respect your lived experience and support you every step of the way.

While diagnosis pathways provide reassurance and clarification of diagnosis, they don’t necessarily provide the understanding and support that an autistic person may benefit from in order to manage the dysregulation that may occur as a result of operating with this neurotype in a neurotypical world.

Coaching sessions provide the opportunity to discuss how your autism may present in your daily life, with relationships, communication at home, work or in education and the difficulties that may arise as a result of the unique way that you see the world. Together, we can understand the root of these difficulties and either seek to put in place a strategy to help or alternatively practice the radical acceptance of how you process your experiences and put in place an accommodation to support you.

Our practice is firmly rooted in the academic study of neuroscience, psychotherapy and clinical mental health while also recognising the value and potential of anecdotal evidence, lived experience and our continuously evolving understanding of the human brain development.

During coaching sessions we focus on:

  • Understanding the root of the difficulties you might experience being autistic;
  • Understanding the things that both regulate and dysregulate your nervous system;
  • Understanding your communication between friends, family, co-workers and in public;
  • Developing communication strategies to help you advocate for your needs;
  • Understanding the effect masking may have had on your development of coping mechanisms;
  • Identifying your sensory needs;

And

  • Implementing accommodations that may be necessary to reduce any overwhelm you may experience.

Coaching is a proven, effective way to empower people to make neuroaffirming decisions, adjustments and affect change in their lives.

Unlike behavioural therapy, coaching doesn’t seek to change or re-wire the way you see/interact with the world. Instead, coaching is a proven, effective way to empower people to make neuroaffirming decisions, adjustments and affect change in their lives. It offers you the opportunity to embrace your neurodivergent identity, allow others to understand your experience and make adjustments to accommodate your natural processing.
